International Women's Day 2018

LEAVE NO WOMAN BEHIND

The UN together with the committee of Australia's theme for 2018 is Leave No Woman Behind. We are so blessed to live a life without wanting or needing much.

Disasters happen around the world daily and this has an increasing impact on women and girls, and therefore it is days like this it is key to highlight the important roles that women play in risk reduction, rebuilding, rehabilitation and peace processes.

Why are women and children 14 times more likely to die or be injured in the wake of a natural disaster?

Following the Boxing Day tsunami, a simple lesson shook us all: many girls didn’t know how to climb trees. Boys did. Climbing to safety, more boys survived than did girls. This is only one example of how gendered roles and action can mean the difference between life and death. There are many more.

Women’s knowledge and expertise as leaders, planning for and responding to disasters and conflict can help protect and empower women and girls so that they can survive and thrive.

I'd like to encourage you to read and discover more for yourself and perhaps you may like to donate to this initiative helping other women in need.

And if you can't that's okay today is as much about raising awareness - maybe just send an encouraging message to someone in your world who may be in need, who is going through a hard time - we need to be there for one another as life can be tough and no-one should have to face it alone.

TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF THOSE AROUND US!
